Questions, answered.
Why is it called OP Mail?
OP as in overpowered. We built the mail service we wanted: every protocol, every power tool, none of the surveillance. The spec sheet above is the origin story.
Can I use my existing mail app?
Yes. OP Mail speaks IMAP, SMTP, POP3 and JMAP, so Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, K-9 and friends all work. Most clients configure themselves automatically when you enter your address.
Where is my data stored?
Hosted in the EU (Finland), with encrypted off-site backups in Germany and the UK. We never sell your mail or use it for advertising.
Can you migrate my old mail?
Yes, migration is included with every plan. We import your existing mailboxes over IMAP from almost any provider, folders and all, at no extra cost.
What happens if I leave?
You export everything: standard mbox or direct IMAP transfer, plus your calendars and contacts. No lock-in, no exit fees, and we will even help you move out.
Are there native apps?
In development. Native SwiftUI apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac are on the way, JMAP-native with instant push, alongside an Azrak VPN app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Until then, webmail plus any IMAP or JMAP client works beautifully.
Why a waitlist?
We set up each mailbox personally at first, and we would rather grow carefully than let people down. A waitlist lets us open in small batches, keep support quick for the first customers, and be fair about who goes first. Joining costs nothing.
How are people chosen?
Your place depends on the time you confirmed your email address, minus 3 days for each friend who joins and confirms through your link, up to 10 friends. Nothing else changes your place: your plan and the number of seats do not. A person approves every batch, and the first batch is small.
What happens when I am invited?
You get an email with a link. The invitation lasts 7 days, and you can extend it once, by a further 7 days. If you miss your first invitation, you keep your place. After a second missed invitation your place is paused until you tell us you still want it.
How do referrals work?
Your status page has a personal share link. Your friend has to join and confirm their email address, and you move up by 3 days for each friend who does, up to 10 friends. This only changes your place in the queue. We never ask for anyone's email address or contact details, and we never message your friends.
Will you let people pay to jump the queue?
Not at the moment. If we offer paying early later, we will explain the terms here first.
What is founder pricing?

Can I leave and delete my data?
